No16 – Tardelli’s tearful celebration (1982)
When Marco Tardelli scored to put Italy up 2-0 against West Germany in the 1982 final, he unleashed one of football’s most famous, most impassioned goal celebrations.
With unrestrained joy flowing from every pore, Tardelli sprinted towards the Italian bench, fists clenched in front of his chest, tears pouring down his face, screaming his own name as he shook his head wildly.
This celebration would become known as the “Tardelli cry”.
Who says it’s only a game?
