No5 – Pele arrives with two goals in the final (1958)
In Brazil’s successful 1958 campaign, 17-year-old Pele scored six goals in four matches, including three in the semi-final against France and two in the final against Sweden. It was his second goal in the final, as Brazil romped to victory, that underlined his unique talent, as the teenager trapped the ball on his chest before twice chipping around defenders without the ball touching the ground and then volleying seamlessly into the net. Pele played his last match for Brazil in 1971, having helped his country win three World Cups.
