The man was thrown from the trolley during the incident in Coogee, Sydney and died at the scene.
A second man is said to be in hospital and in a serious condition.
“We’re dealing with what is just a tragic, tragic incident, both for the close group of friends and the families concerned,” said Detective Superintendent Gavin Dengate.
