The street party style event will provide a big screen showing the BBC’s coverage of The Queen’s Patron’s Lunch event on The Mall in St James’s Park. There will also be on-stage entertainment drawing on the styles and influences of the last nine decades of The Queen’s life alongside dance workshops; a football challenge; cookery demonstrations and food tasting sessions.
The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said: ‘One of my earliest memories is celebrating The Queen’s Silver Jubilee, and I know Londoners will be bringing out the bunting to celebrate HM The Queen’s 90th birthday on June 12. To add to the party atmosphere across the city on this special day, we are throwing a street party in Trafalgar Square to help wish Her Majesty a very Happy Birthday.’
The lunch is part of the Mayor’s programme of free events and Marks & Spencer, Unilever, Diageo and BT have got on board.
Food and drink will be available to buy including Commonwealth-inspired refreshments such as old English fish and chips, an Oz-style burger, Caribbean jerk chicken to Indian curry and other snacks, whilst a traditional tea tent will be serving PG tips, sandwiches and cakes. Other refreshments available include Walls ice-cream and Pimms.
