Travel diary: Edinburgh International Film Festival 2013 – Scotland, June 19 – 30

This year’s 11-day marathon of screenings will include highly anticipated US flick The Bling Ring, directed by Sofia Coppola, and The Great Hip Hop Hoax, about two Scottish rappers.

Why: Since 1947 this film fest has gained a reputation for discovering and promoting international talent – recent hits that had their first airing here include Killer Joe, Billy Elliot and The Hurt Locker. The festival also includes workshops and talks delivered by top film industry bods.

Do it because: Come on film buffs, forget about all the high-brow stuff. What everyone’s really desperate to see is Disney-Pixar’s latest offering, Monster’s University, which premieres at this fest on June 23. No need to be ashamed…
