So grab your wellies and prepare to get gritty and gooey. Mudslinging encouraged.

Why: The muddy madness was originally conceived as a marketing ploy for Boryeong mud cosmetics. The muck is considered rich in minerals and is used to manufacture various lotions and potions. For the festival, gunge is scooped from Boryeong mud flats and trucked to the pretty Daecheon beach.

Do it because: You’ll experience the childlike joy of being allowed to get filthy, indulging in the likes of mud dancing and mud skiing. Plus, it’s meant to be good for your skin, so you should step away from the revelry looking fresher than ever.
