Travel diary: Gion Matsuri in Kyoto, Japan – July 17

This Kyoto festival runs all month, but the main event is Yamaboko Junko, a procession of floats through the streets, carrying life-size figures of famous people and, well, some real-life famous people too. All the floats are decorated with tapestries.
