Wilkins, who was a former coach at Chelsea until he was unceremoniously ditched by the club with the arrival of Andre Villas Boas, was arrested in the early hours of Monday morning near his home in Cobham, Surrey.
The Sky TV football pundit was awarded an MBE in 1993 for services to football.
He played for Chelsea, Manchester United, AC Milan and Scottish clubs Rangers and Hibernian too, before retiring and embarking on a career as a coach.
