When Cyrus got her raunch on at the MTV Awards at the weekend, lots of people would have loved to click on an “unlike” option on Facebook, which is another word added to the word bible.

The commonly used word for taking a photo of yourself, “selfie”, was also added to the dictionary which caused mild controversy when it added to the meaning of “literally” since so many people used it incorrectly anyway – it now not only means “in a literal way or sense” but can be used for effect when it’s not literal at all.

Other new additions are geek chic and phablet, for a device somewhere between a phone and a tablet,

Katherine Connor Martin of Oxford Dictionaries said the word had been around for two decades in hip-hop culture and had spread verbally.

“By last year, it had generated enough currency to be added to our new words watch list, and by this spring, we had enough evidence of usage frequency in a breadth of sources to consider adding it to our dictionaries of current English,” she said.
