Details are a little sketchy but according to reports the pair were found dangling from window sills at the 28-room hostel on Parramatta Rd Concord, in Sydney’s west, as fire burned through the building.
The fire broke out just after 6pm on Wednesday and The Sydney Morning Herald said residents had been slow to evacuate the building after two false alarms in the previous week.
It said 35 people were listed as staying at the property.
Fire fighters were met with heavy smoke and flames and had no idea initially how many people were staying in the budget accommodation.
They used ladders to pull the pair who suffered burns and smoke inhalation from the hostel after fire broke out in the ground floor.
Earlier this month 18 backpackers had to be saved from a fire in an illegal hostel in a Sydney industrial complex.
