For those closeted away in the Antipodean heartland of west London, Angel is probably just another unvisited stop on the Tube map.

But Angel’s main thoroughfare, Upper Street, is well worth a visit – this north London hub is full of great bars, cafés and shops.

There are a couple of landmarks on and around Upper Street that really stand out.

If you’re after a top-notch breakfast, head to the Breakfast Club just around the corner on Camden Passage; for a night on the tiles, check out Islington Academy; for real ale, go to the Compton Arms; for great Mexican food, look no further than Tortilla; and for tapas, it’s Cuba Libre.

Like any great area in London, after a few visits you’ll undoubtedly discover your own favourite spots, which will motivate you to traipse across town every other weekend.
