US rap superstar Eminem closed this year's V festival in Chelmsford, Essex, with a performance featuring Rihanna.

The internationally successful singer joined the Detroit rapper on stage after performing for 70 minutes before him.

Rihanna performed the pair's single Love The Way You Lie in a black leather dress to thousands of festival-goers.

Other artists who also took to the stage in Essex and Staffordshire's Weston Park included Tinie Tempah, N-Dubz and Plan B.

Eminem, who was making his only UK live appearances of 2011 so far, played a fast-paced, hit-packed set which included early tracks like My Name Is and Stan right up to songs like Not Afraid from his most recent album, 2010's Recovery.

He will now head back to the US with a £2million cheque for his  appearance.

Rihanna was paid about £500,000 a night.

A source told The Sun: "Eminem is a smart guy. Him and his management know they'll make cash quicker and without the hassle of organising and promoting gigs. He has few overheads. He only needs roadies and a DJ."
