The incident filmed for TV show Highway Patrol occured in the state of Victoria when the police were called to the scene of an accident. Boy racers were suspected to be doing burnouts in a notoriously popular spot for modified cars.

As the driver sits in his seriously damaged vehicle the policeman asks what he’s up to – his spur of the moment excuse: “I’m just waiting for a mate.”

As the officer pursues his line of inquiry, the driver tries to keep his cool under pressure from the law, asking “What kind of accident?

“One with a curb mate.” answers Constable Bowden, “Your whole car’s smashed up.”

The driver, identified as ‘Clinton’ was fined AU$600 and ordered to do four months community service – and was also banned from driving for 3 years.
