Hailed as comedy gold, the Youtube clip begins with a shot of a herd of deer grazing in sunny Richmond Park.

From behind the cameraman comes the sound of a man screaming at his dog, seemingly called Benton.

A labrador then bounds into the shot and chases the frightened deer.

The owner’s cries get ever more frantic and he throws in a couple of Jesus Christ’s, yelling: “Benton! Jesus Christ Benton!”

The man can be seen running into the distance after his disobedient dog, which continues to chase the deer.

Before the camera is turned off, the unidentified cameraman sniggers.

The incident is so unintentionally hilarious the video has racked up nearly 400,000 views.

Twitter has been flooded with comments about the naughty dog.

BBC Radio 2 presenter Jeremy Vine tweeted: “Re the guy who chased after his dog #Benton in Richmond deer park… whoever uploaded this take on it is a genius.”

Father Ted writer Graham Linehan said; “Whoever did this is a Comedy God…. (via @ddibbley) #benton.”

Others seem not to get the humour of listening to a posh man shouting at his dog.

“Not sure why the #Benton video is considered that funny?” said one disappointed viewer.

However, some are so amused they are buying the t-shirt. Literally.

The video has been spoofed in a number of Youtube videos.

In one, Benton becomes a werewolf.

On a more serious note, every year dogs kill an average of six deer in Richmond Park, usually the young.

Does that mean we can’t laugh at the Benton clip?
