Hawke, who is now 82 years old, didn’t hesitate for a moment when he was handed a fresh schooner of ale and downed it in one, to the delight of the crowd around him.
He was filmed by Glenn Braddon who uploaded the video to social link sharing site Reddit today. The clip has now gone viral worldwide.
The popular Labour party ex-PM has a reputation for glugging back the beers, as he recalled in his autobiography The Hawke Memoirs which was published in 1994. He allegedly held a record for downing two and a half pint ‘sconce pot’ in just 11 seconds.
Hawke held a long term as Prime Minister of Australia, serving in office from 1983 until 1991.
