Bodin Issara and Maneepong Jongjit were competing in the Men’s Doubles Final last week in the Canada Open in Vancouver when the former teammates broke out into a fight.
Badminton is not known for being the most violent sport – fist fights are not the first thing that comes to mind when you think of the sport, yet that is exactly what happened last week when two former teammates decided the best way to settle their differences was to punch the crap out of each other.
Bodin chased opponent Maneepong, who was his partner at last year’s Olympics, across the court onto the adjacent one, then pummelled him with punches and leapt upon him in front a shocked crowd.
The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has said Bodin is facing five charges and Maneepong three for their close quarters encounter.
