The accident happened in Melbourne, with hundreds of sheep falling onto the Princes Highway.
Four vehicles were hit by falling livestock, one car rolled four times, although no injuries sustained by the occupants of the cars were believed to be serious.
“First of all we looked up and we could see the truck flip on its side and the next minute we were underneath and well yeah, it’s raining sheep, doesn’t happen everyday,” said Christy Davis, a passenger in one of the cars.
“I saw them coming down like a mountain of, it looked like dirt, but obviously it wasn’t. And then there was nothing we could do they were literally on top of us.
We just ran straight into them, we all screamed. I slammed on the brakes, and we are so lucky, my car is an absolute right off.
“But the sheep, I feel so sad for them,” said Hannah Sidebottom, the driver of one of the cars.
The road was closed for several hours while council workers cleaned up the carcasses.
