The football fan can be seen in the footage standing in the street as the chaos ensues, before lashing out and punching a police horse.

The horse had been brought in from West Yorkshire Police for the day, as the local derby is one of the fiercest in football in which tempers flare both on and off the pitch.

WYPHorses tweeted this morning that the horse, called Bud, suffered no injuries despite the footy thug thumping him.

“This is Bud the morning after Newcastle, he is in the paddock and appears fine, thanks everyone for their concern.”

A total of 29 arrests were made in Newcastle yesterday in the violence the followed the Toons’ 3-nil thrashing by Sunderland.

It was the second instance of football-related violence over the weekend after Millwall fans mass brawl inside Wembley stadium on Saturday during the south London team’s defeat by Wigan.
