Warne said he was disappointed after facing a Cricket Australia hearing on four charges stemming from the match against the Melbourne Renegades.
He said this in a statement: “I’m disappointed in some of my actions last night. But also I’m pretty disappointed with the severity of the penalties too. I think that was pretty harsh.”
Warne then Tweeted that he would cop his sentence on the chin.
“I have decided to accept my penalty of a 1 match ban,” Warne wrote. “Let’s hope the boys can win tomorrow & we can make the semi finals…”
He won’t be allowed near the team during the match in which his Stars must win against the Sydney Thunder to make the Big Bash finals.
Warne’s teammate Cameron White was also charged for an incident in the heated match and was fined $1000 for showing dissent to an umpire’s decision.
Samuels is yet to face the tribunal for two alleged charges.
He was sent to hospital after the game when he was hit in the head by a Lasith Malinga bouncer, and has a suspected fractured eye socket.
See Warney deliver a gob-full, including a not-so-subtle “Fuck you, Marlon” below.
The greatest ever spin bowler was fired up about an incident which took place when his team was batting in which he believed Samuels held back David Hussey.
Warne also accidentally hit Samuels with the ball while throwing it to the keeper after which Samuel tossed his bat in the air in Warne’s direction.
The majority of Warne’s fine ($3000) was for breaching Cricket Australia code of behaviour rule 2.2, which says a player must not “engage in inappropriate and deliberate physical contact with other players or officials”.
The Stars were beaten by a convincing nine wickets.
