A double save from Watford goalkeeper Manuel Almunia and the ball was up the other end. Before Leicester knew it, Troy Deeney was smashing home the goal that gave Watford a 3-1 win in the match and a 3-2 aggregate win.
An insane pitch invasion followed the goal, before the field was cleared and the formalities concluded for Gianfranco Zola’s men.
“I can’t think of a worst way to lose a match like that,” said City manager Nigel Pearson said. “It can be a very cruel game, and for the players to experience what they did is very tough.”
Watford play Brighton or Crystal Palace next week.
