The two men dragged the body of 25-year-old Lee Rigby of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers and waited for the police to arrive, apparently planning an ambush.

The footage, seemingly filmed on a phone from an elevated position in a nearby building, shows the moment armed police confronted the suspected murderers.

Partially obscured by a tree, one man appears to make a suddenly run towards the police car as the police open fire. His companion, who appears to be armed, is quickly taken down by the armed police officers.

“I have never seen anything like this before, or even heard of it happening,” former Detective Chief Inspector Peter Kirkham told The Mirror.

“For two suspects to carry out a brutal attack like this then stand around in plain sight waiting for the police is crazy.”

Michael Adebolajo, 28, and Michael Oluwatobi Adebowale, 22, have been named as the chief suspects in the ongoing case. Married father of one Lee Rigby from Manchester was named as the victim yesterday.
