The Metropolitan Police said a total of 261 arrests were made over the two days, mostly for drug-related offences and public disorder.

Of that, almost 160 were arrested on the last day yesterday.

The Met fielded 7,000 officers on Bank Holiday Monday and imposed Section 60 public order measures, giving them powers to stop and search, when violent behaviour threatened to escalate.

Overall however, the festival – which is thought to be Europe’s largest street party – was largely peaceful.
