Spare a thought then for fans of NBL team Melbourne Tigers, Australia’s oldest men’s professional basketball team.
They’re not Tigers anymore.
No, now they’re United.
And it isn’t just the name.
Larry Kestleman, who took control of the Tigers license in 2012, also unveiled a new logo and colours.
Social media lit-up with complaints, accusing the club of abandoning the past, and its Facebook page in particular was flooded with anger about the decision.
Kestelman though, who has pumped millions in to the club since taking over, believes the name change is the only way to take the team and the NBL in Melbourne forward.
The club tweeted: “In becoming Melbourne United, we are not turning our back on history, we are uniting behind one brand incorporating ALL Melb b-ball history.”
