Rooftop Film Club

If the rain dared relent for a moment, you’d be able to cast your eyes skywards and see the big blue, punctuated by the odd whispish cloud – the perfect environment to watch a movie in. The Rooftop Film Club, held at three venues across London over the summer, takes you out of the stuffy surrounds of the mulitiplex to enjoy a film with a city skyline backdrop.

From cult (The Troll Hunter) to classic (The Graduate) and action (Top Gun) to romance (The Bodyguard), there’s something for everyone, even Back To The Future fans.

Wandsworth Arts Festival

There’s a range of events and installations in this two-week festival. A storyteling variety night; Green Horses On The Wall, a project That has bicycles pinned to the sides of various buildings; and Birdbrain, a “journey of discovery led by birdwatchers”, gives but a taste of the activities.

May Fayre and Puppet Festival

Puppeteers from across the country descend on Covent Garden to celebrate the battlesome duo’s 350th birthday. There’s a brass band procession, a toast to Mr Punch, a church service led by Punch, and various hand-orchestrated performances, too. It’s as British as beans on toast – but far more fun.

Belle Epoque

Village Underground will be transformed into an absinthe-fuelled fantasy world with circus acts hanging from the ceiling, cabaret and a host of live music and DJs. It’s a secretive and highly decadent night of glamour, in a furtive drinking den that is both vast and seductively intimate. Get along.
