The reason why? Well, it could be as people have had time to unwind from work and still have plenty of time left to enjoy their holiday (providing they’re there for a week).

The research, conducted by Sunshine.co.uk, recently asked 1,775 people about their holiday habits. When most of them were asked when they felt happiest, they said the evening of day three.

Reasons for this sudden surge in relaxation included having time to forget work, knowing they had loads of time to relax, beginning to get a tan and still having lots of spending money.

However, there’s a moribund side to this research. 67% of the people taking part in the poll admitted to feeling ‘extremely sad’ on the day they came home, with 5% of people admitting they were moved to tears. Oh dear!
