Contemporary art inevitably divides people. Is it brilliant or is it bullshit? Is it legitimate to present your own unmade bed as an installation? Or to sell a gawdy diamond-encrusted skull for millions of pounds, insisting it’s so much more than a gawdy diamond-encrusted skull?
Definitive answers to these questions are unlikely to be reached here, but if you should wish to investigate them further, White Cube is the East End gallery most likely to captivate, bemuse or infuriate, depending on your persuasion.
Certainly, White Cube enjoys an international reputation for its exhibitions and also for the artists it helped unearth. Tracey Emin and Damien Hirst, now massive names, both got big breaks with exhibitions at White Cube.
