The charge most levelled against the undisputed darlings of American alt-rock, seven albums into their career, is that they are less experimental than they once were.

And while parts of Wilco (The Album) seem stuck in angel gear (One Wing and You And I, a duet with Leslie Feist), the nagging psych-rock intensity of Bull Black Nova and the delicate slide guitar of Solitaire shows frontman Jeff Tweedy still to be a songwriting force of some reckoning.
