Will Smith’s daughter, Willow, aged nine, has signed a record deal with Jay Z’s label, Roc Nation.
Willow’s debut single, Whip My Hair, has already been viewed over 100,000 times on YouTube, just a day after its release.
Jay Z seems pretty chuffed to have signed Will Smith’s sprog, telling Ryan Seacrest on Kiss FM:
“I believe in superstars. I believe in big records and in superstars and I think [Willow] has both.
“I can only imagine that’s how Mike [Michael Jackson] was as a young kid, he knew exactly what he wanted.”
Listen to Willow Smith’s Whip My Hair:
Willow Smith told Seacrest:
“It’s very, very amazing and it’s very overwhelming. All of the red carpet and the [cameras] flash[ing] and all the people wanting to meet you, it’s very, very, very overwhelming for a nine-year-old.”
Jay Z claims not to have known that Willow was nine, or that she is Will Smith’s daughter.
“I heard the record first before I knew that it was recorded a nine-year-old, and I was like ‘Man, that record’s a smash,”‘ he said.“[I was told that she was] nine and I was like ‘Whoa,’ [but then I found out she was Will Smith’s] daughter and I was like ‘Whoa, whoa!”
Willow’s move into showbiz isn’t the most shocking news ever. As well as her dad being actor/ musician Will Smith, her mum is actress Jada Pinkett and her brother Jaden recently starred in The Karate Kid.
