The museum says visitors have been requesting that the royal couple be added to the exhibits since the announcement of their engagement in November 2010.
“Catherine has her own star quality so we are expecting a lot of people to come,” Liz Edwards of Madame Tussauds said.
The figures are modelled after a photograph taken when the royal engagement was announced at St. James’s Palace. William and Kate were too busy for a joint sitting, so the team of 30 sculptors relied on photographs, TV footage and official measurements.
William sports a navy Gieves and Hawkes suit with a replica Omega Seamaster watch, and Kate wears her famous blue Issa dress, which was recreated by the Madame Tussauds fashion label.
The figures took four months to make, and each of Kate’s brown hairs was added strand by strand.
