A woman was severely burnt on Monday morning when her Durban office was set alight by an arsonist, the eThekwini fire department said.
Divisional Commander Melvin Ramlall said it received a report of a fire at a building in Mahatma Gandhi Road (formerly Point Road) at 5am on Monday.
“The woman was found in an office on the ground floor and she was severely burnt. It was not known if she was working at the time,” he said.
The woman was rushed to hospital and is receiving medical attention.
Firemen doused the flames and prevented the blaze from spreading to other parts of the building.
Ramlall said the cause of the fire was suspected to be arson.
“Police are investigating the matter further as we believe it was a deliberate act.”
