According to a report on Sky News, Ms Sanford’s car crossed over the central reservation and crashed into a recycling truck before bursting into flames. The driver of the truck was not injured.
Her last update, which was possibly referencing Pharrell Williams’ Happy, read ‘The happy song makes me HAPPY’.
Police have confirmed that she died instantly and alcohol or drugs have been ruled out as a cause of the crash.
Speaking to WGHB, a police spokesman reminded drivers that using social media while on the road was incredibly dangerous.
“As sad as it is, it is a grim reminder for everyone… you just have to pay attention while you are in the car,” the spokesperson said.
