One woman is dead and three others are injured after a nightclub crush early this morning.
Police and fire crews responded to calls that clubbers were trapped in the Lava and Ignite nightclub in Northampton.
The deceased and three injured have yet to be identified, though online tributes to the deceased have begun to appear on Twitter.
Two of the three injured clubbers are in critical condition. All three victims are being treated at Northampton General Hospital.
A police spokesman said the fatal and critical injuries are thought to have been the result of crushing inside the venue
Nevertheless, an investigation is underway to establish how the incident occurred.
It has been reported that the deceased woman may have been a student at the University of Northampton.
A university spokesman refused to confirm these reports, and said the university is working with the police.
Hundreds of youth were in attendance at the club, which was holding a rave night called “Wickedest Wickedest.”
Set to go on until four in the morning, the club closed after the incident and will remain closed through tomorrow.
