Nearly 30,000 cheered on Holland as they came from behind in the final to win a thrilling match 4-2 against Denmark – conquerors of England.
An early Nadia Nadim penalty woke the Holland team up as Arsenal player Miedema scored to level up before Martens put the home side ahead.
If Holland support thought they would cruise to victory, it was soon dismissed as Denmark levelled through the break through Pernille Harder.
Nerves were calmed when home captain Sherida Spitse scored from a free kick before Miedema scored her second to seal an historic victory for Holland.
Holland’s passage to the final included a 3-0 over in-form England.
Having made the semi-finals of the 2015 world cup, England’s build up to the Euros made them one of the favourites for the tournament.
But a poor performance and too many errors contributed to a 3-0 defeat for England for which manager Mark Sampson accepted.
“I made some mistakes, for sure. I’ll go away and reflect. I’ll look at it all and then do a better job next time.”
