Captain Lanning’s 126 came from just 65 balls to become the biggest score in women’s T20 cricket of all time.
Her four sixes and 18 fours took the Southern Stars to 4-191 and Ireland never went close, finishing their 20 overs with 7-113, with their top scorer Isobel Joyce picking up just 28 runs.
It was Joyce, too, who finally removed Lanning but it was too late by that point. In the chase Claire Shillington (22) and Isobel Joyce put together a 48-run partnership, but with the wickets tumbling they were never in the hunt.
Erin Osborne and Ellyse Perry took two wickets each to keep the Aussies’ perfect record in group A after their seven-wicket win over England in their tournament opener.
