Wyclef Jean may run for president of Haiti, according to a statement from the singer’s parents.

Former Fugees star Wyclef Jean has campaigned tirelessly for his native Haiti and now reports are that he is considering whether to a five-year term as the country’s leader.

Jean was hired as ambassador-at-large for Haiti back in 2007. His passion was evident when he broke down in tears during a press conference appealing for aid for Haiti following the devastating earthquake that hit in January.

Wyclef’s family have since issued a statement claiming: “Wyclef’s commitment to his homeland and its youth is boundless, and he will remain its greatest supporter regardless of whether he is part of the government moving forward…”

“If and when a decision is made, media will be alerted immediately.”
