X Factor’s Matt Cardle has lashed out at Simon Cowell, accusing the show boss of caring more about the media circus surrounding the contestants than their stage performances.
The dire comments from the X Factor favourite came after fellow contestant Aiden Grimshaw was booted off last week’s show, losing to Katie Waissel in the bottom two sing-off on Sunday.
Matt told the Daily Mirror: “In terms of the television show, Aiden was expendable. I was shocked when Simon sent him home, but then Katie is better for the show than Aiden is.”
Many viewers expected the controversial songstress to finally be eliminated from the competition, as it was the fourth time Katie was facing eviction.
X factor tycoon Simon Cowell, who could have kept Aiden in the competition, had other plans however.
Cardle continued: “She [Katie] gets the coverage – she gets the show attention. He [Aiden] just isn’t like that but he is a much better singer.”
Since the judges were unable to come to a conclusive verdict, the final vote went to deadlock and the viewers’ votes were to decide the outcome – sending Aiden home.
The live audience seemed shocked by the decision, since it was Aiden’s first time to be in the bottom two.
A disappointed Aiden agreed with Matt, saying: “It is an entertainment show – but I can’t see where the entertainment is coming from [with Katie] as she is not doing that well.”
“I think it should be more about singing from now on, ” he continued.
