The X Factor’s Gamu saga continues today as her family’s lawyer says they will fight deportation and reports circulate that Simon Cowell will intervene.
There was an outcry when Cheryl Cole axed Gamu Nhengu from the X Factor last weekend, with claims that the decision was based on the knowledge that Gamu was about to have her visa application denied.
Hopes still lingered that Gamu would be brought back into the show as Cole’s ‘wild card’ pick, but Cheryl is now believed to have picked Treyc Cohen.
Gamu may have bigger battles to fight however, as the Home Office has ordered the 18-year-old to return to Zimbabwe after her mother’s visa application was turned down.
Today the family’s solicitor Frances Farrell vowed they would take the fight to keep the family in Scotland to the Court of Session in Edinburgh if necessary. She told BBC Radio Scotland`s Good Morning Scotland:
“It’s difficult for me to comment without seeing the written decision but I think their position is going to be that the original application was not on time. That then deprives my client of her normal full rights of appeal to the immigration tribunal.”
Support has poured in for X Factor darling Gamu. In her home town of Tillicoultry, Clackmannanshire, neighbours stood on the street with hand-painted banners saying “Gamu ur the X Factor” and “We love you Gamu”.
Keith Brown MSP, who represents Tillicoultry, has waded in, saying: “I have known Gamu for a number of years and heard her sing many times. She is the kind of hard-working talent we should have in Scotland.”
Bookies William Hill are even offering odds of 5/2 on Cowell meeting Prime
Minister David Cameron or the UK Border Agency before
Saturday’s X Factor live show, although how he could help is unclear. Let’s remember, he is just a talent show judge people!
Cheryl, meanwhile, has kept quiet during the whole debacle, despite reportedly receiving death threats for axing Gamu. However, she quipped: “Things could have been worse than all this public hatred and death threats – I could have been landed with Louis’ group.”
