A new survey conducted by News Limited showed that Australians pay more for the breakfast spread despite the fact that it is produced in Australia, and then set about finding out why.
“It appears that the current batch of Vegemite available for sale in the UK was purchased at a time when teh Australian dollar versus the British pound appreciated by around 10 per cent,” a spokeswoman for Kraft Foods has said.,
“Given the long shelf ife and iconic nature of Vegemite, it is always in demand overseas so we often see bulk purchases when there are currency dips.”
