YO! Sushi

The scene: Sit at a table beside a conveyor-belt which transports plates of sushi around the restaurant and past your hungry eyes. Plates are colour-coded for price and you can see what’s what from the menu if you’re not brave enough to simply grab what you like the look of. Tables have still and sparkling water on tap and are stocked with wasabi, ginger and soy sauce.

The atmosphere: is casual and fun rather than elegant. Great for lunch with your mate, less so for a hot date.

The grub: YO! Sushi sells itself as “more than sushi” and it is indeed somewhere you could go even if you don’t do raw fish. There’s a selection of sashimi, nigiri, rolls and handrolls which will satisfy those who like the real deal but the extensive menu also has veggie options, cooked dishes and some meat. Especially tasty are the soft shell crab rolls and the spicy tuna hand rolls.

For those who like it hot, there are lots of noodle and rice dishes to choose from. £2 gets you unlimited miso soup.

Behind the bar: Unlimited green tea is £1.50. There’s also beer, wine and saki.

Bill please: Plates range from £1.70 to £5. You’ll be able to fill up for about £12 before drinks.

Verdict: Sushi connoisseurs probably won’t like it, but if you’re after the novelty value of sushi without having to be too adventurous with taste, then this is for you. The gimmicky-ness of the set up is fun and the staff friendly and relaxed.
