Zilli Fish

36-40 Brewer St, W1F 9TB, (020 7734 8649; zillirestaurants.co.uk)
Tube: Piccadilly Circus

The scene:
On the corner of Soho’s busy Brewer St thoroughfare and Lexington St, Zilli Fish is this roomy, well-lit restaurant with an impressive aquarium behind the bar, staffed by attentive, friendly waiters.

The grub: If you’re crazy about seafood then it can sometimes be a struggle to get your fix in the UK, but Zilli offers a delicious range of fresh produce and exciting flavours.

The Jersey oysters taste like they’ve just come out of the sea, while the lobster is exceptional, if a little labour-intensive, as lobster tends to be. And the swordfish steak, perfectly barbecued, is a real highlight.

Behind the bar:
You’re spoilt for choice, with an expansive range of imported wine and beer. Best stick to the white when eating seafood, though.

Bill please: Starters for about £7 and mains for £17 and up.

Verdict: Smart, friendly service complements extremely tasty food in a fun part of London.
