As one long-suffering Zimbabwean farmer told me: “You only realise what incredible resources this country has when you see that it can be ripped off for so much, by so many, for so long — and there’s still something left.” Most organised tours are trouble-free but, for the moment, political and inter-tribal tension continue under the grasping hand of Mugabe and his cronies. One day Zimbabwe will again be a favourite with travellers as one of the most beautiful and friendly of African countries.
