The fact that Foals’ surprisingly conservative and pretty unremarkable follow-up album, Total Life Forever, is being heralded in some quarters as a great leap forward for British indie is testament more to the creative bankruptcy of most guitar rock in 2010 than any merits of its own.

Sure, the title track is a useful update of the post-punk formula, and After Glow does all right with a propulsive beat, but Total Life Forever is basically landfill indie wearing funny shoes.
