Marc Jacobs has found a new muse for his label’s SS14 campaign, and it’s serial twerker and wrecking ball-rider Miley Cyrus.

Photographed by David Sims, the shoot was made public via Marc Jacobs’ Twitter account this morning and Cyrus’ own Instagram, and it also features models Natalie Westling and Esmerelda Seay Reynolds.

But it’s not like we didn’t see this one coming – the singer had been spotted sitting front-row at Jacobs’ shows plenty of times, had presented the designer with an award at Fashion Group International’s Night of Stars last October, got naked for his Protect the Skin You’re In campaign, and as recently as yesterday posted a selfie in which she wore a Marc Jacobs pro-gay t-shirt.

The campaign shows Cyrus looking all dark and gloomy, the singer staring off into the distance with a look that suggests deep pondering while Westling and Reynolds look equally dazed and ‘far away’ in thought.

Instead of the standard tongue-poking pose, the singer sits on the sand wearing a navy jacket with black embellishment, maroon shorts and black sneakers with embroidered white flowers.

Speaking about the photo shoot with Women’s Wear Daily, Marc Jacobs revealed his close personal friendship with Cyrus, which began when label CEO Robert Duffy introduced him to the singer.

“Robert became friends with Miley a few years ago, and I know her through him... I met her years ago at Robert’s birthday party in Savannah and we became friendly,” he said.

Describing the idea behind the campaign, Jacobs said, “We wanted this beach with girls kind of sulky and broody, and we thought it would be cool if it was Miley with what could be two friends, feeling distant and quite dark... We all just love [Miley] and her entire being, her energy, her talent, her intelligence, everything... There’s nothing I don’t like about her. She is just genuine and very natural.”

In previous years, Jacobs has featured celebrities including Dakota Fanning, Victoria Beckham, Helena Bonham Carter and Sofia Coppola.
