London Zoo
Remarkably, London Zoo has been open to the public since 1847 – for 20 years before that, it was a purely scientific establishment. Today, it’s still going strong, thanks in part to its central, picturesque location at the northern end of Regent’s Park – just follow the canal from Camden and you can’t miss it.
Whatever kinds of animals fascinate you, you’ll find something here to perk your interest – the zoo has more than 15,000 inhabitants so it’s impossible not to.
Meerkats are a predictable favourite, but the pygmy hippos and bearded pigs are not to be overlooked either. The big cats are always popular, and London Zoo is home to a Sumatran tiger as well as an Asian lion.
