Bounding around north London this week we stumbled upon an awesome little shop in the yummy mummy area of Crouch End. In this middle-class haven, next to rough and ready Finsbury Park, is the marvellous Painted Black vintage store.

We couldn’t believe our luck when we found bags from the Thirties to the Eighties, killer clutches and old-skool shoes, and well-stocked racks of hand-selected dresses and suits from bygone decades.

As well as painfully cool men’s and women’s vintage clothing they’ve got art deco teapots, retro cameras and other odds and ends.

Every first Friday of the month, from 7.30pm, pop in for a communal perusing session, try stuff on and enjoy a glass of wine – shopping’s never been so fun.

Other in-store events include a Fifties make-up masterclass.

And if that doesn’t float your boat, drop in and say hello to Rose, the store’s friendly dog.
