A short saunter from Earl’s Court tube, this modern but cosy restaurant has a distinct family vibe – the walls and menus are covered with photos of owner Dimitris Karonis and his loved ones.

The scene Though southwest London is never going to substitute the delights of a seafront taverna on a warm Greek island, As Greek As It Gets comes mighty close with its welcoming and friendly staff.

The dining area is split over two levels with a balcony overlooking downstairs.

The name may make it sound a little like a high street chain, but the food speaks for itself.

The grub As Mr Karonis assures us, the ingredients are sourced from his homeland while the family recipes are cooked by Greek chefs.

For starters, mini mousakas are melt-in-the-mouth delicious and the feta cheese wrapped in filo with ouzo and honey are sensational. Garides Saganaki, an unusual mix of prawns, aniseed, feta and tomato is exceedingly tasty.

The balls of lamb mince fried in bulgur wheat with yoghurt for dipping, known as Keftedes Pligouri, are also delightful.

Beef slow-cooked in honey and red wine for four hours could well be one of the most decadent things you’ve ever tasted.

The swordfish skewers with tartar sauce and rice is also excellent and authentic.

For those not that keen on meat, there’s an aubergines with grilled tomato, feta and basil starter, or spinach with rice and feta as a main. And for the less adventurous, there’s burgers and BBQ chicken.

Order from the a la carte menu, set menu (£15.90 for three courses) or platter options.

Starters range from £1-£7.50; a chef’s selection platter of meze is £30; mains between £4.10 for a wrap and £14.95 for swordfish.

Verdict
Exceptionally good service, value and quality, delivering incredibly indulgent Greek food with some real surprises – well worth a visit.
