The Snooty Fox is something of an Islington landmark. This diminutive pub-cum-bar has earned itself a well-merited reputation, securing it multiple awards in recent years.

The scene The pub’s distinctive mint-green exterior is at its best in late summer evenings, teeming with trendy young north Londoners.

The interior is a happy hodge-podge of dark wooden tables and comfortable sofas. A few austere button-backed armchairs provide quieter nooks, while a small but effective garden plays host to invariably busy picnic tables.

The walls are covered in Sixties indie movie memorabilia and a beautiful jukebox resides in the corner, looking as if the pub was built around it.

The grub The backbone of the pub’s menu is its rotisserie chicken, which is unfailingly delicious. The sides are numerous and bountiful, and if chicken isn’t your thing, there’s a daily specials board and a small range of pub classics.

Behind the bar All the premium continental lagers you’d expect plus a well-maintained and changing array of cask ales. A thoughtful bottled-beer offering is supplemented by an approachable wine list.

Bill please Pints from £3.60; glass of wine from £3.50; starters from £4.95; mains from £8.95; desserts from £4.75.

Verdict A genuinely welcoming pub, perfect for catch-ups and late-in chinwags.
