The scene The folks behind The Sebright Arms go south of the river with this stylish and laid-back bar, which is like a student union with serious creative kudos – East End artist Pure Evil is currently exhibited here. There’s a pool table, ping pong on the roof (yep!) and comedy and live music in the upstairs space.

The grub Top drawer homegrown-fuelled foodies Mark Jankel and Jun Tanaka’s Street Kitchen (in their first bricks-and-mortar residency) are the grub providers and their gourmet hot dogs are outstanding. We went for the Bull Mastiff (pork sausage, chorizo, onions, coriander, sour cream) and the Boston Hound (pork sausage, pork belly, crackling, dill pickles, red cabbage). Salivating yet?

Ice creams and lollies from the Ice Kitchen are the perfect summer accompaniment – there’s basil, raspberry and white chocolate flavour. We tried. We loved.

Behind the bar Ample wine selection, but the ales and lagers are where it’s at. There’s a wide variety of imports, many with large alcohol contents.

The Okells bitter and Cornish Orchards cider (West Country and nothing like Strongbow) got us started before we moved on to a Flying Dog Raging Bitch (8.3 per cent and felt like it) and a Brooklyn East India Pale Ale (a soothing comedown to 6.9 per cent).

Bill please Dogs from £5.50; sides from £2.50; beers from £3.90.

Verdict Great drinks, great food, great vibe – get down there. Simple.
