Here’s our guide to half a dozen essential app downloads for people moving to London.

1 TaskRabbit

Moving house can be a complete nightmare, but locating from another country can turn out to be one of those times in life when a little bit of extra help wouldn’t go a miss. With TaskRabbit it’s possible to hire a skilled ‘Tasker,’ to help tackle a moving to-do list. Whether moving furniture, building DIY flat pack furniture, or cleaning up after the previous tenants, no job is considered too big or too small for Taskrabbit.

2 Appy Parking

For those brave, foolish and rich enough to drive into the city, this app saves time searching the streets for paid or free parking. It covers resident parking bays, pay-and-displays and single yellow lines and identifies zones in green when it’s free to park, and red when restrictions apply. It also shows you the location of paid meter bays, disabled parking, motorcycle and electric charging bays, and even car parks. If you’ve ever tried parking in London then you’ll understand the necessity of this app.

As a little extra the app highlights the cheapest petrol stations and allows you to park on people’s driveways thanks to a partnership with ParkatmyHouse.

3 Santander Cycles

We’re real fans of London’s self-service bikes, but get really frustrated when our chosen docking station is full. The Santander Cycle app will make borrowing one easy by providing a list of nearby docking stations and how many bikes are available at each one. The app also comes with a built-in map to help navigate to the nearest docking station to your destination, and a timer which alerts you to how much time you have left on your hire.

4 Vouchercloud

The easy to use app that saves customers money. It has the biggest selection of mobile discount vouchers - anything from restaurants, pubs and bars, entertainment and days out, to deals on hotels and properties.

5 Hidden London

For a fun day out without the crowds, the simple app recommends a list of underrated attractions away from the crowds, eateries, and sites across the city. A great way to discover the real London.

6 Happn

Using your phone’s location, every time you cross paths with someone in real life, their profile shows up on your Happn timeline. If you like what you see then all you have to do is click the like button. When you’ve both clicked like each other, start a conversation and let it Happn.
