A post-mortem of Jacintha Saldanha, the nurse who committed suicide days after transferring a hoax phone call at the Edward VII hospital where Kate Middleton was being treated for severe morning sickness, is expected today.
Saldanha was found dead in a suspected suicide three days after transferring a prank phone call from DJs at a Sydney radio station, 2Day FM.
MP Keith Vaz, who had met with the family, criticised the hospital for not giving them enough support:
"The hospital has sent them a letter, which I have seen, but I'm surprised that nobody has made the journey to Bristol to sit with them and offer them the counselling that I think they need."
Mr Vaz, speaking on behalf of the family, said: "They just want me to say that they are extremely grateful to the public here in the United Kingdom and throughout the world who have sent them messages of condolences and support following the death of Jacintha."
The two DJs who made the call, Mel Greig and Michael Christian, have been undergoing intensive psychological councelling since the announcement of 46-year-old Jacintha's death.
During an emotional interview aired yesterday on Australian TV they told of their shock at hearing of Saldanha's apparent suicide.
The media company which owns 2Day FM has said it will donate AU$500,000 to a fund set up to help Jacintha's family.
